Escape The WC
Is it conclusive proof that a point'n'click addict will try and escape anything when they're trying to escape the toilet? The jokes are too easy on this one so I'm not going to bother [subbed by dahlyn, tia, tafkam, anon, grosse & jackie k].

Lazylaces Logo Competition
I've just done some work to update the blue stylesheet version of this site - you can switch between the site stylesheets at any time by using the red and blue squares at the bottom of the righthand column (or use the hyperlinks I've just written out). Anyway, that's not my point. While I was doing the work I got to thinking that it's about time I updated the lazylaces logo...

The original, and still in use, logo was created when I took an image from the results of a google image search for "laces" and then had some kind of artistic accident with it in Paint Shop which I still don't fully understand. Anyway it's meant to show some shoes tied in a lazy fashion - I have no idea if it succeeds - I stopped thinking about it about 3 years ago. What I'd like to do is replace it now, and if someone with more artistic ability than me can help, all the better, so in that vein I propose a lazylaces logo competition... here are the details (which I am not making up as I go along - honest):

Prize
The creator of the best entry will receive a token to the value of $30 for Amazon.com (or the nearest GBP equivalent for Amazon.co.uk). I'm afraid my budget won't stretch any further. In addition if I love the entry enough it will become the new logo for the site. All other reasonable, and probably all awful, entries will be featured on the site with a credit.

Guidelines

  • The logo should either be, or be able to fit within, a banner 630 x 80.
  • In GIF or JPG format, with as small a file size as possible.
  • It would be nice, but not essential, if the words "lazy" and "laces" were somehow represented.
Rules
  • The Closing Date is 28th Dec 2005 at 09:00GMT.
  • Artwork may be altered by me for use on this site.
  • All submitted artwork may be distributed and used by lazylaces.com free of charge.
  • Graeme's decision is final.
Ok. That's it I think. Hopefully someone comes up with something cool, otherwise the new year will see me having a painful session with Paint Shop. I'm sure I'll do an update before the closing date so look out for that [idea from a comment by Oxyacetylene].

Just a quick update on the "should there be a lazylaces forum" poll I ran the other week. I can't work out how to close off the poll, but I'm taking the votes as of now as the final result, so, in reverse order:
  1. Don't care - 172 votes.
  2. Yes - 473 votes.
  3. No - 506 votes.
So, no forum for now. Maybe I'll rethink this at some future date, but for now I'm happy with the result. As a number of you pointed out I'm busy enough as it without patroling forum threads half the day which was something I hadn't really thought through. I would like some kind of general posting/chat area at some point which I thought I could do using a forum, but maybe I'll put my thinking hat on and see if there is another way of doing this.

PS. Thanks to Quimble for the quick and easy polling - a sinch to set up and so easy to use - recommended (and free) if you have any kind of poll to do.

Escape The Salon
Another totally incomprehensible point'n'click adventure. Do these not come in English anymore? I don't mind a challenge but this is starting to get ridiculous. Anyway I could call this game "nigepico", but it's so clear that it should be called "Escape The Salon", that that's what I'm going to go with. There is a computer on a desk/counter, but there's no wastepaper basket in this one either. Just as well it really, it would only be full of hair and cuticles and things [subbed by stacy & ang].

B714 Escape
There are so many computers in B714 Escape that it should really be called "Escape The Computer Lab" (that's what I suspect it is - there's a language barrier thing going on though). Using a standard point'n'click adventure ratio of 1 computer to 1 wastepaper basket you should really be tripping over clues in dustbins, but I haven't actually found one yet, perhaps you're wearing one on each foot? That would make the maths better, anyway I'm possibly rambling now, we better get on and play... [via flash gamez].

Surf Swell Island
Surf Swell Island is a great game from Disney intended for kids, if you want to teach them all about internet safety. Not my cup of tea at all, but what it's trying to do is an unfortunate necessity and they do it very well. Note: if you're a parent and want to check it out before letting your kids loose on it I recommend playing it to a soundtrack of Gay Bar by Electric Six. It livens the whole thing up a bit and makes it a bit more "adult". That's my top reviewers tip! [subbed by sunshine].

Miniminiroom
Ah, a nice complex language point'n'click game. Who knows if it's simple or hard? Just understanding it is the first challenge. Due to the language barrier I had almost convinced myself that there was no game to be played with Miniminiroom when I accidently unlocked the door and let myself into the room (hang on - isn't that the wrong way round?), having closed the browser window more than once by pressing on the blue button (don't do it!). Anyway as you'll see from my screen grab there is a room in there in a more traditional point'n'click sense, but there's a very weird menu navigation thing going on too. Anyway, I'm sure you'll work it all out [subbed by sunshine].

The Pantry
Not a game, but a little clicking practise, can be found in The Pantry. I'd mention the artistic credentials but that would get you way more excited than this little play thing deserves. Nice though [subbed by jackie k].

Lenny Goes To Pluto
OK, I have some point'n'clickery lurking in my inbox from while I've been sick. First up Lenny Goes To Pluto, an adventurous romp around the Solar System's most remote planet. Actually didn't they discover another planet further out, just recently? What did they call that? Anyway the graphics are simple but cute, and it's quite funny in places. I like how he taps his toes when you leave him for a while. I remember this from a video game in my youth, the exact name of the game escapes me at the moment though [subbed by toonafeesh].

The 75
Cleverly coalescing a game, in the format of a simple picture, with Lazylaces musical Friday, this link is ultra efficient. The 75 from Virgin Digital, looks like it's just a weird picture, but in it there are 75 symbolically represented bands or solo artists. For example, the flower cart in the bottom left would give you "Guns 'n' Roses". Name all of them, it's as simple and frustrating as that [subbed by gherkin].

Well I'm still not well, but I've had enough of sitting around feeling sorry for myself and watching really bad daytime television from under the bedcovers, so it's time to post some stuff...

The first thing that cheered me up this week was Samorost 2, for me it's the gaming equivalent of a big *hug*, but some other news has penetrated the lazylaces bedcovers (ooo-er). The current issue of Web User magazine, "The UK's biggest selling internet magazine", featured Lazylaces in their "best new web sites" review! Oh the fame. Admittedly by "featured", I mean "was tucked away in a byline on page 17", but you have to take what you can, and they did describe me as an "old favourite". Thanks guys. Next time I'm aiming for at least a half page spread ;o)
