Google Earth
I downloaded Google Earth ages ago, but somehow I just hadn't found the time to play with it, but I saw Preeti and Simon playing with it today and it got me really investigating the thing. Basically, even though Google isn't top of my Christmas card list at the moment (a long story for another time soon), Google Earth is about the best thing ever since sliced cheese. Pan, tilt, zoom & fly around the world with maps, directions, restaurant locations, you name it, it's there. Superb [also subbed by Sherry, Sniffles, Robin, & Nick P].

there are lots of cool layers that you can add to google earth - think plugins.

I have Flags, Sattelite positions, Where the sun and Moon currently are, to name a few...

Some are updated realtime off servers...

Well my flat isn't built yet on the maps - which is odd as they say the maps are 3 years old max and I've been living there over 3 years, and I don't remember it being a field when I moved in.

did anybody actually scroll through the user agreement and read it? My eyes caught the word 'nuclear' as I was scrolling and had to go back and look. Here's what that paragraph said and I quote:

THIS SOFTWARE IS NOT INTENDED FOR USE IN THE OPERATION OF NUCLEAR FACILITIES, AIRCRAFT NAVIGATION OR COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS, OR AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL MACHINES OR ANY OTHER SUCH HAZARDOUS ACTIVITES IN WHICH CASE THE FAILURE OF THE SOFTWARE COULD LEAD TO DEATH, PERSONAL INJURY, OR SEVERE PHYSICAL OR ENVIROMENTAL DAMAGE.

I just thought it was funny.

They have recently improved the resolution for London. The only thing I find annoying about Google Earth is that when you pass over the prime meridian it goes wierd, which is a problem if you want to look at the millenium dome (or Greenwich). I can't wait for them to make a live version!

I've had lovely Google Earth for a while now but I just wanted to tell everyone that you can find Disney World on it. And I am a huge dork so I thought that was cool :)

I've had it for a while too, but it ate up my ram every time I used it, and so I deleted it, only the day before yesterday.
I used to love playing around with it though. I love how when you go to one of the more well known cities, you can get right in there at street level and be surrounded by the buildings...this is especially effective in New York :o)

Oh, and i found my street....and saw my car parked outside my house, I was amazed!
