The First Door
Puzzle fans may like to try out The First Door, it's a URL changing puzzle, although it is a little different from the norm, having no source code clues, and requiring no graphics manipulation software. Personally I haven't got too far, being stuck with some broken dominos (see above), which hopefully will make more sense to you when you get to them than they did to me. Here's what I think is an official description of the game that got sent through to me:

A new quest began at 12 o'clock tonight called The First Door. A series of tricky puzzles where the answers of them link up to form the idea of the quest: Find the person who needs help: me. I am hiding somewhere in the world and only through the answers to the puzzles can you find my location! I need to be so cryptic in case those who are looking for me find me first. No hunting in the source code or need for photo manipulation software, all you need is the Internet, some skill and the ability to learn things you didn't know before. Please, help me.

[subbed by The First Door (?)].

Orly

:
for the "band below" door
HINT: (click box to highlight/fade)
the letters make two words, and the words are connected to what you see in the picture, and to a famous song. the name of the band that sings that song is the answer.

Kate

:

Anyone playing this now?

Comment 22, Monday, June 26th 2006 09:44:00 AM

RogueEdukator

:
is dot matrix anything to do with sighs?

Comment 23, Monday, June 26th 2006 09:45:00 AM

Draghkar

:
I am wondering if the DotMatrix thing has something to do with the number that is listed in the background.

Havent found anything yet though

Comment 24, Monday, June 26th 2006 09:48:00 AM

RogueEdukator

:
What is the Raven holding?

Comment 25, Monday, June 26th 2006 09:51:00 AM

Draghkar

:
Its a dutch financial institution..

If that was a hint, i didnt get it.. please provide another hint..

Comment 26, Monday, June 26th 2006 10:02:00 AM

RogueEdukator

:
just speculation not a hint

Comment 27, Monday, June 26th 2006 10:05:00 AM

Kate

:
I thought I had it, but I'm not sure. The number in the background looks like it might be a date 20787 - 20 July 1987? Joan Rivers played a character called Dot Matrix in 1987 movie Spaceballs, but none of that works and I think I may have just been on a wild goosechase!

Comment 28, Monday, June 26th 2006 10:08:00 AM

Draghkar

:
Well I have been hunting on a reference between Edgar Allan Poe (Author of "The Raven") and the matrix, but so far no luck...

Comment 29, Monday, June 26th 2006 10:14:00 AM

Draghkar

:
And I found "the Raven Matrix" which is a coven in mississippi. No result there neither... :-(

Comment 30, Monday, June 26th 2006 10:27:00 AM

Kate

:
Are we missing something obvious with those red dots?

Comment 31, Monday, June 26th 2006 10:30:00 AM

RogueEdukator

:
Is it a raven?

Comment 32, Monday, June 26th 2006 10:36:00 AM

RogueEdukator

:
i thought the dots were some kind of binary clock, but it doesn't work out

Comment 33, Monday, June 26th 2006 10:37:00 AM

Draghkar

:
Well it seems to be a 7x12 grid, however the middle column is empty

a dot matrix printer uses either 9 or 24 needles. Considering 9 needles we can make 3x3 squares

I still dont know how to proceed from there.. but maybe you guys can shed your light on that?

Comment 34, Monday, June 26th 2006 10:42:00 AM

RogueEdukator

:
it we assume the middle is blank for a reason we get 8 3x3s is that 8 letters or numbers if so three are the same

Comment 35, Monday, June 26th 2006 10:54:00 AM

RogueEdukator

:
or I might be way off!

Comment 36, Monday, June 26th 2006 10:56:00 AM

Draghkar

:
Putting everything in a string with ommitting the middle column i get this:

... .. .. ..... ... .
.. .... .... .....
... . .. .... .. .

gibberish to me..

:-(

Comment 37, Monday, June 26th 2006 10:58:00 AM
