The First Door
Puzzle fans may like to try out The First Door, it's a URL changing puzzle, although it is a little different from the norm, having no source code clues, and requiring no graphics manipulation software. Personally I haven't got too far, being stuck with some broken dominos (see above), which hopefully will make more sense to you when you get to them than they did to me. Here's what I think is an official description of the game that got sent through to me:

A new quest began at 12 o'clock tonight called The First Door. A series of tricky puzzles where the answers of them link up to form the idea of the quest: Find the person who needs help: me. I am hiding somewhere in the world and only through the answers to the puzzles can you find my location! I need to be so cryptic in case those who are looking for me find me first. No hunting in the source code or need for photo manipulation software, all you need is the Internet, some skill and the ability to learn things you didn't know before. Please, help me.

[subbed by The First Door (?)].

First Door, A teeny tiny hint for Shall I Compare Thee?

Comment 661, Tuesday, June 27th 2006 07:27:00 PM

Mr. ii

Sara-
The line is taken from Shakespeare (I actually had to memorize that poem in high school years back, brought back old memories :) )

The picture is... pretty? :)

There's a lot of connections there, and my first thought is that there's a common transformation for each pattern to its two "products", and figuring out all of them will give the top pattern...

As for getting words/numbers/characters from them, I have no idea.

I need to refresh this page a lot faster :)

Any starting points, First Door?

"Walking the road" is much, much simpler than that. I think, as I was, that you're overthinking the entire thing. Make sure your keyboard looks similar to this, or use this as a reference:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/QWERTY

And read the hints previously... the pattern for walking is practically given to you three/four times above.

First Door, you need an aim account :)

Mr. ii,

I am familiar with the line, from one of my favourite poems! (Something we can talk about when we find you The First Door)

I like the blue leaf background, but i can't find anything special about it.

I thought about the pattern too but i cant figure it out either!

Too many can'ts!

I'm gonna email the first door! as soon as i can figure out his email add :)

Trickman-
I'm trying my best not to completely give it away. I mentioned previously that I got a certain letter combination that made no sense, and Sara proceeded to tell me I was halfway there. That's the pattern. If you realize how I got those letters, you know how to "walk the road". Now you just need to figure out after that how to line up the letters before you walk, which is really a lot simpler than the picture shows, IMHO.

Now back to the Compare Thee... anybody on this on aim to talk about it?

Ok, I found those symbols I was thinking about - they are Chinese symbols meaning Elemental attribution - but I'm not so sure as these use 3 bars, not 6 as in the puzzle.

there are ones with 6 bars too.

Assume then that the sonnet ref is Shakespearian - as alluded to in the title - and not Petrarchan? There are significant differences.

Comment 695, Tuesday, June 27th 2006 08:31:00 PM

Ok, so the element is water, and it has something to do with Shakespeare's sonnets. There is a "Shakespeare" sonnet that is thought to be written by the 'Water-Bearer'...
