Rat Room 2

I really thought I had posted Rat Room 2 before, I've certainly played it before, but searching back through the vaults I just can't find it anywhere. So, if you haven't tried it before, start randomly clicking in the point'n'click pit of darkness that is Rat Room 2 which manages to be even more obscure than the original Rat Room. It's black, black, black... [subbed by winniethepooh, Cynthia & Ashley].

I got some japapnes type writing, is that something? All i found is:

HINT: (click box to highlight/fade)
The curtain that pulls aside,
Plain cement,
Handle,
Japanese writing?!?
Wooden frame
Something that feels like marshmellow, is that something?
And a few other minor things.

at the left side, slightly above the curtain rail...

now the problem: is there an inventory? or will the key just work automatically with whatever it's supposed to open? :P

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
I clicked above the text box on the upper left-hand side when 'opening' the curtain. When I clicked and "Opened Curtain", I clicked once more and "Found Key". Not sure if this is a second key as I was able to find the first one near that red switch seen earlier.

alright, I found a number of things in the view with the inactive switch from the start (the starting room):

HINT: (click box to highlight/fade)
just a little upper right from center, you can find the soft marshmellow object. In the top right area your the screen, there is a spot that says Mm.., which turns out to be a big book? There are two other books around there as well, but you cannot read any of them. Also, there is a small spot that says Ouch!, which is something sharp and smells of fish - towards the right edge of the screen, just mouse over. No idea what anything does, but there is also some japanese words around - maybe they hold some clue(s)?

Aside from apparently just viewing the ending movie by fast forwarding, has anyone found the correct key to open the third locked drawer? I have found four keys and opened the top two drawers, but I must be missing a key...
Keys I have found:

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)

- in the closed curtain, just left of center screen
- above the curtain rail
- in the carpet
- in the tissue box

Just carefully mouse-over to read a message, usually beginning with Mm.. to tell you where a key is. Also, using the tab key works - it does not show you where things are, nor can you select using Enter or Space, but remember that the tab key scans from top down, so it can give you a clue as to how high or low a suspicious object is.

Played this quite a while ago... I think the view with the carpet is where the light is, I just don't remember where. Repeat, there is a light! But do you have the patience to keep looking for it? And suffering thru the rather rough translations? hehehe

u know... it's just a thought. but when u uh.. right-click and click play to see the ending scene, it says that you left a *hexagon* room. which leads me to think that there are actually SIX sides to the room instead of three, just that each of the sides have a layout similar to the side directly opposite it.

especially since when i click the books on one side of the room, i can see that 'popup' window with an outline of the book, but when i'm on the other side of the room, nothing happens when i click on the books (the caption just says 'i took it' or something like that)

(i'm hoping that i'm making sense....)

anyway, i was working with that assumption of six sides earlier in the day, but i still didn't get the last (or was it last 2) key(s)... but maybe someone else might want to try. this might also explain why the drawers seem to open sometimes but not at other times (So perhaps that isn't a bug after all?!)

OMG I checked Gamershood and apparently the version with the light was a goof. The entire game is made to be played in the dark. I don't think I can do this. This is pixel-hunting, and so I am out.

alright, I found another key...

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
in one of the books (from the that you can see pop-up in the center of the screen) - I think the middle one, then mouse over the left page. This key opened a drawer - one of the top ones, but I still cannot find that last one. I am guessing it's found in the "room" with the other books, or possibly IN one of the books from the other set, but here you cannot see the outlines of the books, so I hope not...

Anyone else find that last key?

Thanks,

Dan

Yeah, the game was a pain, but that link Nocando posted gives us a version with some visual help. Over all, a good concept by tricking us with identical rooms, but we would have liked a flash light to find, even if it meant fumbling around on that first screen to find it. Additionally, you could put a time limit on the battery life, meaning that the brightness could fade as time progressed, and if a player took too long, he/she would have to find a way in a pitch black room. So to the author - put the time in to make a detailed level, and some kind of light source --> you could even have a locked door with a light shining from under it, or have us open the curtain to find a brick wall with a crack allowing some moonlight in and we would have to find a reflective surface to aim the very faint and/or small radius light (like a polished quarter - make us find it, a rag, and some kind of polish to shine it up, or something). To make it really tough, although many of us may probably pick up on it in the future after playing this game, you could have an octogonal room - everyone would not raise suspicions in a seemingly four-walled room....

Ok. I found FOUR Keys So far (Naming the part by the biggest thing in the room)
SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
1. In the curtain part, there is a key just near the end on the metal stick on the left side. It will say "mm... There's something here" This opens the bottem Drawer on the screen (There is three, close to the wooden board, look for the keyhole) But there is nothing in it.
2. On the same screen, look around the curtain while it's CLOSED. It will say "Something is behind the Curtain" I have no idea where it goes though.
3. On the screen with the matrress, look for a tissue. There a key there (It unlocks the top drawer on the curtain room, again look for the key hole)
4. On the same screen, look around the Carpet. There will be something saying "There is something behind the the Carpet" (I Think it should say UNDER the carpet) It unlock the middle Drawer.

Hope this helps for the people who had completely given up on this game.
