I love my Last FM account, tracking the songs you listen to, and building charts of favourite tunes, it's all a bit geeky, and yet at the same time deeply satisfying. Just my cup of tea. Anyway if you have an account, think about adding me to your friends list, if you don't have an account think about getting one (a "basic" account has a stack of features and is free), and either way check out my personal "radio station" using their nice new flash gizmo thingy. It's not an exact science, I'm not even sure what some of the songs in there are, but on the whole it contains a lot of stuff I listen to, so it's perfect for a Lazylaces Musical Friday song sharing experience.

:I was introduced to Last FM a few months ago. I'll definitely look you up. :)

:cool gadget
Yvonne
:Oooh, I didn't know you could embed your own radio station... hrmmm... that might make subscribing a lot more tempting...
Graeme
:Yvonne: I don't think you have to subscribe for this, it's just new, even though I do have a subscription which I started a while back I've found very little you get extra with it that you don't get on a free account.

Eb

Eb

:This is like those dreams I had of going into record stores & seeing the LP shelves mostly empty. Very depressing.
But I did have a cool dream later to counter all that, when I went into a store & got (I can't say 'bought' because I don't dream that meticulously) four "4-LP" albums of early 70's Jethro Tull music. I even listened to some of it. One of those once-in-a-lifetime dreams I guess.

:If you like last FM you'll probably also like http://www.pandora.com, which I use. Basically it's a internet radio thing - but you tell it what music you're into, and it will automatically select tracks that it thinks you'll like using the music genome project. Obviously it's fairly limited controls-wise because of copyright etc - so you only have play, pause and skip - but it's still good, it's helped me find loads more cool music.
U2isdebest
:Thanks Phunky I have heard songs I have never heard before which I like very much.

:My friends and I have used Last.fm for some time on our own private forum. We are hundreds of miles apart and with a glance we can see what each other is listening to at just that moment. It bridges the miles and makes us feel closer. It is also a great way to find other music you would have missed. Of course that is in addition to checking Lazylaces musical Friday. :o)

:I've been looking to branch out and listen to new music for a while now .. this is an ideal way .. thanks for posting it Graeme
Yvonne
:Graeme : As soon as I read your post, I (rather geekishly) immediately went of and had a go at slapping my own <a href="http://www.yvonnetsang.com/music/music.html">"Yvonne.fm radio station"</a> on a test page. So it doesn't work, which is a shame, but it's understandable, really, it must use up a lot of bandwidth, not to mention copyright/licensing issues must make is unrealistic to offer it to unpaying members.
By the way, did you know that you have a <a href="http://lastfm.excite.co.jp/user/lazyg">Japanese last.fm doppelgänger</a> at excite.co.jp?
Unfortunately, I'm not *that* much of a music fan, so I'm still not convinced about subscribing for last.fm. (Unlike photography, I like that enough to get myself a pro <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/nanimo/" title="Yvonne's Photos on Flirckr">Flickr account.</a>)

:LastFM is quite nice when you''re working to find music of a constant energy. when i looked for Artists similar to shpongle was immediately introduced into the world of psychedelic dub and folk. Drifting off to a parallel universe of Entheogenic, Ott , and the Orb
Nice... :)
