Little Deviant (Book of Deviants)
Little Deviant (Book of Deviants) is an odd game promoting some kind of car (a Scion SUV I think, in the US). The graphics and sound are excellent, if a little weird, but it's all quite violent, even if the blood shown is green, so you might not want to let the kids play. You play a little deviant monster type creature who goes from level to level disposing of "sheeple", which seem to be a cross between people and sheep, in various disturbing, odd & amusing ways [subbed by Lady Lark].

I think that's the most gruesome way I have ever seen a car advertised. Very nicely done though.

Whoo hoo! Get all the way through & they've provided an image editor that allows you to drop one of the little Deviants into an uploaded photo. I created a sample of "Dating After 30" Great fun!

Disgusting! A sadic exercise on creatures looking like sheeps and old men at the same time, being tortured because they are different (deviants), and all this to promote a car! You shouldn't publish this game, Graeme. When you told me you would't publish GRIDLOCK 3D MAZE because you couldnt make it work on your computer, I thought it was reasonable because you didn't want to publish a game that you couldn't see because it could contain images or textes that you would't want to publish. But after this, what could you possibly fear? After all, GRIDLOCK is just a girl (all dressed up) jumping boxes, and that you can confirm by reading the comments on the site!

hehe, I found it to be quite enjoyable, as an american. And Scions aren't just SUVs, Graeme, they're also sedans and trucks as well, although the SUVs tend to be the most popular model. What they've really been pushing in their ads in the US is that they're supposed to be completely customizable in any way you could imagine, like custom spoilers, etc. Although the SUVs tend to be so boxey in their shape, we tend to joke around and call them homeless people cars, a cardboard box with wheels XD

Riverbengo: Playing the game before I feature it is more about me only wanting to write about games I have actually played, even if it isn't all the way thru to the end, rather than me wanting to check the content suitability (although that is part of it).

Aside from the interesting graphics, the game doesn't have a lot going for it, I think. I found the gameplay a bit dull. Wasn't really turned off by the weirdness, rather liked the design, but it seems kind of a strange advertising campaign for a car.

lol fun game....and @Riverbengo, the Deviants arent killing the sheeple because they are different, its because the Sheeple turn the world dull and grey. Didnt you notice that as you progress through the levels the landscape becomes more colorful?? Jeez...

Jeez ...? Woooow, american arrogance! So you think that I didn't notice? Ya, the landscape becomes more colorful ... how sweet ... from the killer's perspective! The american way of making the world more colorful, from their point of view, is killing and expulsing. Instead of sheeple they could any way have used indians, japanese, vietnamese, chile, aphgans, iraqui, chile, palestians and so on, the list is too long to post here. That's why to sell the game they had to represent violent killings of creatures, instead of paints for example. And do you know why? Because otherwise they wouldn't be able to sell the car! Don't you have enough killings in your schools? And what about joining Kyoto? wouldn't it be a better theme for the game?

I haven't actually played the game yet, so I might come back and say "That was the worst, most evil thing ever" but I have to comment:

It might be easy to forget that alot of Americans ARE Indian (me), Japanese, Vietnamese, Chilean, Afghans, Iraqi, Palestinian and so on, the list is too long to post here.

You're right, the Kyoto Protocol is probably a more positive topic for a game, but I think the purpose of a game, being that you play it when you're tired of working or studying, is to entertain. Obviously some have different ideas of fun, but...eh...

I think it's interesting how some people think Americans have a monopoly on hating and blindly discriminating against whole countries.

Scion is made by Toyota. I don't think this is exactly an issue of America vs. the world.

It's a game designed to appeal to 16-30 year olds who want to be "different" and not just blend in with the tan sedans of the world. Every Scion model looks completely different from the cars it competes against, and the fact that you can order it from the factory with whatever modifications you want only increases the appeal.

How is this game any worse than any other game where you slash, stomp, zap, shoot, or otherwise maim and kill your enemies?

That was the worst, most evil thing ever. I especially liked the bit where the deviant turned the Sheepie into an accordion...reminded me of those special Mortal Kombat endings...mwahahahaha!

Considering it's the deviants doing the killing and not being killed, I think this whole argument is moot (my part of it anyway, also I didn't know that Scion was made by Toyota). Methinks some people just like stirring up trouble.

Wow this is the most controversial lazylaces thread ever! I played the game and I thought there was too much waiting and not enough playing. The game tasks were too easy. The graphics were good but I think there was too much emphasis on shock factor and violence to make this game entertaining and interesting. It was like comparing a modern art damien hurst to a classical rembrandt.

I think this america vs the world thing u guys r talking about is a little far fetched. Toyota want to promote their car as being new and exciting, one that will beat all its dull rivals because of its cool designs. Theyve taken this idea to a visual extreme which means that the cool people are disembowelling their boring rivals. I'm not saying I entirely approve of this but I dont think a point and click game is a political device. Theyre trying to get you to remember the car by shocking you. Its called advertising.

Unfortunately for them, this thread is more engaging than their 'game'.

Wow, great thread; messed up game. I thought it was misanthropic in general, not xenophobic...and seeing as Toyota is a Japanese multinational corporation, that American vs. the world thing (as Nej put it) is rather moot.

Some people need to separate American foreign policy makers from the American people. In theory, the government is empowered by and accountable to the citizens; in practice, industry and big business (heavily tied to the current administration) have more sway. One can say that we voted this guy into office in the first place, but there is a lot of literature on how certain groups of voters with Democratic/liberal tendencies were systematically disenfranchised and how voting machines were tampered with.

Two things scare me about that.
1. That it was possible.
2. That there were still plenty of people who did vote for Bush.

Sorry to ramble; I've now made myself late! Know that there are grassroots movements to change American foreign and domestic policies; that all Americans aren't "sheeple," to bring it back to the game.

Dang, I thought it was less disturbing than many of the more bloody, scary games we've played here. Didn't realize it would be so controversial. Ouch. I sometimes play games strictly for the graphics and these graphics are A+.

Just wanted to say that I can't stand blanket statements like Riverbengo's that I can see now are obviously meant to provoke. After playing the game (which was fun) I realized his/her comments really had no basis (really the game was the opposite of what they thought).

Did I overreact? Yeah, probably. Next time I'll play BEFORE I post.
