Free Rice

Free Rice is a vocabulary testing game that adjusts itself to your level of language skill - the more questions you get right, the harder the questions. But the main point of the game, and the reason you should head over and play for a while, is that for each question you get right 10 grains of rice are donated to a hungry person through an international aid agency. It doesn't sound like a lot, but the more that you play, and particularly the more of you that play, the bigger the donation will be. Head on over, play, and save lives now [subbed by vmklover].

I just can't stop playing! I keep thinking how easy it is to be helping someone in this manner. I hope this idea spreads quickly and becomes a huge trend!! It's the perfect game for an earth-conscious word-nerd like myself! lol

geez...I'd just like to say that I never thought I would actually type a comment that said, "1st". I always imagined that if I ever got to post first, I'd write something smooth and intelligent...apparently, that went right out the window! I feel like such a loser ....lol!

Wow... get into the 40's levels and they get pretty esoteric.

Fun thing to play with for a while though.

Hmmm??? It says on their page that the actual donation would come from their sponsors which is listed on the bottom of the page, but I don't see any sponsor logos. Do any of you see one? Is this donation drive even real? Hmmm...... but it is a fun game. @ lvl 33 right now. And I will reach level 50!

Oh my, mid-40's levels are very hard even for someone like me who loves vocabulary. This was one part of my English class that I just loved, loved, loved. :o) But I'll keep trying even if I keep making mistakes, all it does is bring you down a level. I will conquer this yet :o)

At the bottom of page in the white box are three sponsors...what I see is iTunes, Macy's, and Fujitsu...

Okay I've reached level 50(after jumping up and down on those extra hard levels of 47-49) and donated 1710 grains of rice... what next? Stuck on level 50, that's it? No congratulations? Oh well, I think I'll leave it at that... enough vocabulary for the day.

I like the vocabulary games for a while, but I don't believe for a second this will benefit anyone. Hate to be pessimistic, but I'm sure it's a bogus site, charity-wise.

Seen too many "Help The Starving" so-called charity sites that were full of it. But I hope I'm wrong.

I see the sponsors and affiliations at the bottom of the questions.

Using firefox and standard adblock.

If anyone really wants to help developing countries a better place to start would be to donate to http://www.concern.net ,a very accomplished international aid agency with 39 years experience overseas. How the money is spent is shown here: http://www.concern.net/about-concern/annual--review/annual-review-2006.php
There is also a US office: http://www.concernusa.org/

Mine stops working after a while. I broke it! Shouldn't we be feeding people more than rice? Especially since a well balanced diet helps fight off diseases? Yeah I know I'm a party pooper!

Is this to say these sponsors will only help starving people if we play this game? And where do they get the rice from? aren't there mountains of the stuff being sent out anyway?

nice game btw.

I think 1000 grains would not fill a bowl. Play for fun. Donate some other way. Alot of time spent for such a small amount of rice. Probably are better charities.

Man I made it to about 2,500 grains of rice, and then I just couldn't think any more. . I made to about level 44 and at four in the morning, now is not the time to be asking me things I don't know lol . . . BUT! for those of you who do need help, I've found Ask.com has the greatest definition site, because it's all right there for you. No hunting no guessing. Just right there for you. . I certainly need some tea now. . .

Seems a little douchebaggy to me.

"We have all this rice and we would have donated it but unfortunately you have a poor vocabulary. Now people will starve"

Or

"There is no rice"
reminds me of carbon credits.

I can feel good by clicking on a computer screen rather than go out and help people. Not that I'm actually going to go out and help people, but I think its wrong to feel PIOUS (high and mighty) after clicking a flash game.

<i>"We have all this rice and we would have donated it but unfortunately you have a poor vocabulary. Now people will starve"</i>

...OR....

"We take all the ad revenue and buy rice with it."

Is something wrong with that?

1000 grains, never made it past level 27. Considering that I'm from Germany and thus not a nativs english speaker, I'm qite contend with that.

I just keep wondering how much money these people get from their sponsors for the advertsing. I can't believe that this only covers the money for the rice you win.

1450 grains of rice. I got up to 50, I play a lot of Scrabble. I dropped back twice and the urge to keep going and get back up to my high score kept me going.
