the 3 by 3 square panel underneath the cover I unscrewed, if you click on the squares they alternate dark purple and lavender. i tried making the shapes in the panel match the colors projected on the wall.

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
I had to mess withe contrast on my monitor but I finally say the light fixture, you put the paper in the light fixture for the 3rd light pattern

butterfly,

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
if you overlap the 3 color patterns codes on the panel, there sould be 2 squares that are untouched. #2 and #8. turn them both to purple, go around corner and use key in the door. the plant and copier are red herrings

Thanks Mac for the help with the keypad. I never would have figured that out. I was using

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
positions 4 and 6 (not rotating the design as apparently is necessary)

For the keypad...

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
I thought it was the two positions that are purple (ie where the blue and pink overlap without yellow), which gave me the correct answer without rotation.

This game is seriously buggy. I've done exactly what everyone here has suggested

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
On the dark/light purple 3X3 pad made positions 4 & 6 (using standard phone keypad positions) dark purple then checking for the door, push the little blue button then checking for a door, make those two positions light purple then doing the same, gone through all kinds of patterns using the three light patterns on the walls... and invented a few ideas of my own...

And I still can't get any kind of door to appear.

I already have
SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
the key
but don't have anything to do with it.

LOSER rating from me.

Aaronzdad.......it took me a while but i finally managed it,if it's not 4 and 6 think what it would be if you rotated the 3x3 square! hope this helps

Well, this was suitably confusing. It probably didn't help that I can't understand Japanese.

Out of interest, were everyone's patterns the same? Or do the patterns vary?

Took me forever to get the patterns to show. So for any future players:

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
1. Red light
See that panel on the wall with 3 circles? Put the blue ball (found behind the pot plant) into the first circle. The other circles can change colour. There's a clue on the wall -- blue, yellow, red.
Having done that, the red light will show and the red pattern will be on the wall.

2. Blue light
Take the chair and put it on the ground underneath the projector on the ceiling. Now you can click on the projector. I'm not sure if you can click it just normally or with a screwdriver, but watch for the blue light to appear in the projector.
This projects a blue pattern on the wall.

3. Yellow light
In the view with 3 lamps hanging from the ceiling above the pot plant, click the middle lamp. Take the yellow paper (found behind photocopier) and stick that on the lamp.
Yellow pattern will be shown on the wall.

Then there's the keypad.

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
I found Julia's comment to be the one that solved my problem. I was trying the 4&6 combo and it didn't work for me.

When you put all the 3x3 patterns together, on top of each other, find the blocks that make PURPLE (blue+red only). Put this into the keypad. For me, it was 2&8.

ALSO OF IMPORTANCE for the keypad to work

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
See, I tried the "winning" combo the first time and it didn't work either. Apparently, you can't win by cheating or being lucky, and you have to actually make all 3 patterns display before you enter the code.

Hope that helps.

Keypad sequence...

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
blue and pink makes purple. if you imagine the blue and pink patterns overlapped you get 3 squares which are common to both (#2, 5 and 8 on the keypad). add the yellow pattern and it crosses the #5 square making it non-purple again. that leaves #2 and #8 as the only purple squares. hope that helps :)
