Escape 01
Escape 01 might look great, but despite the simple title, it's not so simple to understand. I am being relentless though [subbed by winniethepooh].

So far, I have
SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
a red piece of paper and a black piece of paper. My Japanese isn't proficient enough to read all of the characters, but the red one means "birth" and the top character on the black paper means "up" or "top" and the bottom one means "bottom."

Other than that, when I got to the close up of the manattee (cute!), you can click on him and
SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
he says, "Hey, don't be mean to me!" and if you keep clicking, he presents you with a series of questions and I can't make out enough of the kanji to make any sense of them
so I am TOTALLY stuck after that.

And the reason I stopped playing was because I could not figure out how to use items...

Can anyone help?

Okay, so you can have a full on conversation with the manatee...

Q1
SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
what are you doing here?

answer
SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
I think he's saying that the animator wanted to show off the animation but didn't have any other use for him, so they let him put him in the game??

Q2
SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
give me a hint!

answer
SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
Okay, but just a little one, okay? What do you want to know?
q1: I can't find the eco-bag and can't seem to pick up any items... (i think)
a1: if it's small, you can pick it up.
q2: the tv-cabinet won't open
a2: ?? something about today being a special day and thank you for coming??
q3: i don't understand what's written on the red paper
a3: hmm. have you found the....???? yet?
q4: i don't understand what's written on the blue paper
a4: bushu. which is supposed to be busu, but it's bushu. (I'm pretty sure this is a play on words but i don't know what the significance is yet...).

Q3:
SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
What's your name?

answer:
SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
HI*MI*TSU (i don't know if he's saying his name is Secret, or if if his name is A secret...because I can't read anything else on this page.

Q4: ???????

How do you get the manatee to talk to you? I've been clicking on him like crazy..

Comment 11, Wednesday, May 7th 2008 07:43:53 PM

when you see him in the first screen, you have to click the up arrow to walk forward before you can click on him.

Hahahaha...if you scroll up on the game screen and click on the word "here" in yellow, it will take you to a hints page that's in English...

...I'm still confused, though. :o(

so the english hints say something about the color of the place settings...

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
...they correspond to the circles on the door lock, but I have no idea what order they're supposed to go in.

Flowergirl228, I was in the close-up screen of the manatee, and I still couldn't get anything, no matter how much I click on him.

~begins to drool like zombie~ So. . . After looking at the tips and getting a MASSIVE migraine, I figured that the
HINT: (click box to highlight/fade)
colours of the chopsticks were indeed the colour combination for the door
and that the person with the
SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
green
chopsticks was the "influential" person and went from there. The
SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
blue
chopsticks came next because that's where you set your forks when setting a proper table setting. I didn't get the
HINT: (click box to highlight/fade)
door panels
hint, but after getting the first two, a little experimentation should get you the last two colours in a cinch :D. . . I'm now going to lie my head down for a bit. . . I do believe my ocular orbs have imploded in the attempt to get my neural synapses to process what I read into my brain. . . I'm still not quite sure of what the hell I just read

Seriously, I hoped that helped, because I might have just volunteered for dain bramage. . .

Comment 19, Thursday, May 8th 2008 01:16:27 AM

:
Well. . . After getting into the bathroom, it's pretty easy, because the Engrish link gives you the hint for the door to get the key to leave. . But. . Now I'm staring at the cute physics defying mammal that lives in warm areas. . . ~shakes head~ SOMEONE DECIPHER THE ENGRISH!!! I can't take much more of this xD

Comment 20, Thursday, May 8th 2008 01:23:15 AM

Lumeionia

:
Nevermind. . . If anyone worth their salt who says they know their folklore, here's a hint. They were the mammals that were mistaken as
SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
mermaids
. If he says something involving a music note. . . You can appreciate a very dissapointing ending in a very tangled web of Engrish . . . ~gets a bat to destroy the man with a lightbulb for a head~

Comment 23, Thursday, May 8th 2008 07:04:40 AM

Lumeionia

The person who's most influential is the person with their back to the exit door. Since you're trying to get through the door with the colour combination, find the place setting that's closet to that door

Comment 24, Thursday, May 8th 2008 09:11:53 AM

Tanais

:
The Color Code for the door is:

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
Green, Blue, Red, Yellow

Let it be known, I didn't bother with trying to figure out the most influential person and whatnot. Just a little trial and error.

Comment 25, Friday, May 9th 2008 12:55:47 AM

Helanren

:
The hint about the most influential person is a bit confusing, as the door you can see in the screenshot is

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
the door to the bathroom rather than the exit door :-)!
Strictly applying the rule, that would mean green has first rights of relieving himself....
However that colourcode given by Tanais is correct.

Some hints for the game:
- you can only have two items in your inventory until you have found a bag (to put the rest in I suppose :-))
- In order to combine items, you need to first select anitem, then press the text in the black box below the inventory (you will see a text in white appear above the selected item), then select the second item in the inventory and click on the first again. You really only need to do this once:
SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
to combine bag and knife to get a key

- The red cards

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
can be used in a game together with the red cross you can find
SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
in one of the drawers
If you think of the cards as placed on the arms of the cross, then you have to find a kanji that can be placed in the middle to make 4 new words. The meaning of the characters is given in the helpfile, and placing “人”in front of two of them and behind two others (as you would read them on the cross if 人 is in the middle) would give you actual words ("traveler, "lover" etc.).

- The blue cards

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
form a similar wordgame. The 3 characters on them are compound characters and you have to find the common element in them. Not surprisingly, as they are all names of fish (e.g. "鯖", "mackerel" and "鮫", "shark"), the common element is "魚" , or “fish”.

Combining the clues from the red and blue cards,
SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
you get "人魚" or “mermaid”, which is the code for the safe in the bathroom

- For the final exit code

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
You have to answer the 4th question which was "please look at my name."
The given clue tells you that it is a "mammal that typically inhabits warm, shallow coastal waters, where rivers flow into the sea. It has a rounded tail" for which the answer (as some have guessed already above is
SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
manatee

I mentioned this before about other games, but I'll say it again: I am surprised at the uniform low ratings this game got. It is almost impossible to complete the game if you do not know Japanese, but that doesn't mean the game is bad, does it? It's actually nicely made I think, beautiful graphics, though it has a somewhat confusing navigation....

:
We still talk about it
The City was in heaven
When we took the Cup from England
Back in 1927

But we’re ready for a new tale
At the helm is Peter Ridsdale
Though the other teams are wishing
David Jones is on a mission

From the Canton to the Grange End
Let it roar…

We are Cardiff City
And we’re going to Wembley
Watch the Bluebirds Flying High
Paint the Cup in blue and white

We are Cardiff City
And we’re going to Wembley
We’ve been knocking on the door
For 80 years or more

With Parry, Rae and Ledley
The outcome seems so likely
Little Rambo’s like a tank
Scoring goals there’s Hasselbaink

Glenn & Roger guard the back door
And Capaldi’s throw is top draw
Whitts and Thommo dynamite
Kev and Trev are full of fight

From the Grandstand to the Bob Bank
Let it roar…

We are Cardiff City
And we’re going to Wembley
Watch the Bluebirds Flying High
Paint the Cup in blue and white

We are Cardiff City
And we’re going to Wembley
We’ve been knocking on the door
For 80 years or more

Oh I’ll be there
With a little pick and shovel
Oh I’ll be there

If it hinges on the spot kick
I know Enkelman will save it
And I’m sure we will prevail
Give the Cup to Steve McPhail

We are Cardiff City
And we’re going to Wembley
Watch the Bluebirds Flying High
Paint the Cup in blue and white

We are Cardiff City
And we’re going to Wembley
We’ve been knocking on the door
For 80 years or more

Fade out.
