An Encounter With Unknown
Well that was quick, the storm's over, the power is back, and the sun is struggling to come out. Apparently a tornado did come down (is that the right phrase for it? I have no idea), but in the town 10 miles (or so) away so we escaped this time. So to celebrate the return of electricity and the fact that we didn't all get blown away, here's another point'n'clicker to keep you occupied: An Encounter With Unknown. No tornadoes included, but there is an alien. Personally though I'm not playing, I'm celebrating by opening (and drinking) a beer. Y'all enjoy though [subbed by Mystery].

Hmm, there's probably a certain way you have to flip the switches after you turn them on. I've tried flipping them all to blue, but it doesn't seem to do anything.

Im assuming it has to do with the patterns you make in the first room you go to by using the charcoal on the wall

Comment 29, Wednesday, June 4th 2008 07:39:07 PM

Vvicked

:
I'm pretty sure the red light to the left of the inventory
SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
indicates the room's location. So if you look at the shifting position, you've kind of got a 6-point star with a center like this:
2
3 4
1
5 6
?
indicating rooms by order of access (1 being the main one, 2 being the room you reach with the first switch flipped, etc.)
In room #2, the wall pattern could be also indicating the 6-pointed star shape... such that the double circle represents room #3, the triple circle represents room #4, and the bold circle represents #1...

I don't know what to do with these sort of iffy observations. :/

HunterThompsonWanabe,

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
What do you mean by "You can switch the shaped from gray to black in the last room"..? I haven't been able to change anything in that room yet. Help, please! :)

I have no idea. Ive been fooling with this thing for a long while. It might help if I knew what the end game was, but I don't even know that yet.

Comment 33, Wednesday, June 4th 2008 08:12:44 PM

HunterThompsonWanabe

:
Following on Vvicked's observations, the piece of paper with the upside down 4 would be related to rooms 2, 1, 3 & 4, and the other paper to 6, 3, 5 and 4. Whatever that means.

Comment 35, Wednesday, June 4th 2008 08:22:32 PM

Vvicked

:
To clarify...

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
The patterns shown on the wall in the room with the hole/lamp are NOT what you should be inputing into the machine, they're just a demonstration of how the 5 symbols indicate various positions on the 8-sided flower thing (and the 3 possible central elements).
These demos - plus the papers indicating that 2 of the symbols work in lots of up to 4 (and what they correspond with, directionally) - give you all the information you need to decode the lines of dots under the panels.

I'm pretty far, but stuck. I have:

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
a paper clip tied to rope (used), a bent paper clip, a screwdriver (used), watercolour paint, plunger thing (used), a glass dome, two pieces of paper (one with some kind of blue diagram on it), and charcoal (used to colour on walls).

Also, I wonder. are there only
SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
five rooms to get to through the portal? or can you use some kind of combination of buttons to get more?

Comment 39, Wednesday, June 4th 2008 09:01:25 PM

HunterThompsonWanabe

:
OK, here goes:

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)

Look at the series of 8 circles on each of the left and right panels in the last room. On the left panel, you see 4 solid dots. Solid dots represent the large petals on the flower right above the row of circles.

Now look at your paper with the solid dots on it. The line goes from 12:00, to 6:00, to 9:00 to 3:00. The 3:00 position is marked with four solid dots, the 12:00 with one solid dot. Therefore, following the line, you can extrapolate that the 6:00 position would have 2 solid dots and the 9:00 would have 3 solid dots.

Remember the row of circles? There are 4 solid dots. Solid dots = petals, so you fill in the petal in the 3:00 position.

Use this formula to fill in the proper petal on the right flower.

Comment 40, Wednesday, June 4th 2008 09:09:59 PM

HunterThompsonWanabe

:

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)

The circles with small solid dots inside them represent the small petals. Use the same method to figure out which small petal you are to click on each flower.

Yeah but how do you even get the thing in the fifth room to even work? I can't do ANYTHING with it. Are there supposed to be more than five rooms?

Comment 42, Wednesday, June 4th 2008 09:17:10 PM

HunterThompsonWanabe

:
Now for the middle portion:

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)

In the second room you can teleport to (with the light, and where we figured out what the dots represent), there are three other symbols: a black ring and a set of two small concentric circles in the top portion, and a set of three concentric circles in the bottom portion. Obviously, the three concentric circles must represent the triangle, as it is the only shape left over in the field.

As for the other two, the two small concentric circles represent the outer square of the center portion, and the black ring the center dot.

Now you can complete the puzzle.
