Game design is a little lacking here. Leaving players stuck flipping back and forth between two screens right off the bat -- hunting for the magic pixel -- tends to alienate, not engage.

Hmm,
SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)
seems the philistine approach works well to open certain doors.

I enjoyed this, but wish it was longer...hard to find some objects, but luckily you have the helpful changing cursor.

Shit, and again the programmer has disallowed to zoom the play window. It' s too small for a bigger monitor. I don't know the reason. I have to say good bye to pastel games!!!!

I liked the graphics and the set up.

I didn't like it that often when I clicked on a potential object I found myself going back or sideways. I ended up missing a couple of necessary tools because it was rather a pixel hunt. And I'd have preferred
HINT: (click box to highlight/fade)
a more upbeat ending
.

How do you get the

I loved the graphics on this one. Nice little game.

graphics are the only thing good about this one. seriously murtaugh, why do you label this things with your otherwise awesome pastel logo? except for the daymare games and submachine (which you havent even made a new one in ages!) these games are starting to suck.

i already ranted on another game but lets hope you see this one.

graphics 10/10
- awesome
story 3/10
-no backstory, no happy ending, no sense
gameplay 5/10
-pixel hunting crap, but at least it aint no 123bee.

overall 4/10
-amazing looking game, which is on par with any pastel game, but it feels half baked and utterly dissapointing. this game is extremely easy, except for the pixel hunting, which is a very cheap tactic to add difficulty to a game.

i love you murtaugh but i dont love this game.

huh, well I enjoyed it anyway. I don't know why people think it's a pixelhunt, I had no problem finding all objects and navigation was very simple.

Hornpolio

:
I agree with Anthrax.

Real "fans" tell it like it is, no need to be a fanboy/girl just because it's a free game. They know we appreciate them.

IMO, not one of Murtaugh's best, because it's not that fun...and it is a bit of a pixel hunt for no reason.

Anthrax pretty much said the rest.

Comment 30, Friday, February 5th 2010 05:23:12 PM

Limbo

:
I'm inclined to agree with Anthrax and Hornpolio, but there is really only one object for which you have to hunt pixels. The gnomes, I think, contain a lot more of that. Not as elegant as Covert Front. Too messy.

Thanks Limbo.

@ Anthrax, Hornpolio He's actually about on schedule for Submachine. It certainly hasn't been "ages" since the last one. The Edge was September 2009, and The Root before that was Jan-Feb 2008. Daymare Town 2 was May 2008, and Covert Front 3 July 2009. (speaking of which, you're not a fan of Covert Front? D:)

Have some patience.

That said, I can see what you mean about the pixel-hunting here, but let me offer an alternative explanation, because I hardly had to to pixel hunt. It seems to me like, in Space Oddity especially, everything has the same sort of tone to it. Everything is kinda grayscale and nothing really sticks out (it's dark in space, what do you want?), so it's really not obvious what to click, whereas a game like Submachine, you might find a TOTALLY empty room, and a screwdriver on the ground. Pretty obvious what you need to do.

One thing I will say that bugs the shit out of me about this game and Space Oddity 1, the various screens are.. disjointed and it's not always obvious how you got from one screen to the next.

So let me make sure I am reading this right. Are all of you saying that the ending

SPOILER: (click box to reveal/hide)

with the cyborg kicking your butt is the correct ending? if so then why does it start over?

Comment 34, Saturday, February 6th 2010 10:31:39 PM

Paint

:
Yes that's the correct ending. There's going to be one more Space Oddity after this one.

i thought it was a pretty good game. never had to pixel hunt for anything after i found my first object.

as for back story, if you watched the begining scenes rather than hit skip, you would have been reminded of alot of the scenes from space oddity 1.

i dont think its pastel's best game, but i dont think it's as bad as you guys are saying.
