I was clicking around like an idiot until I realized you need to

use the scrolls in certain areas and the coloured balls in order to move on.

Ok, so how do you fully win the game? I did get a "you win" message, but then it said "That wasn't enough..."

put all the scrolls in the right places and put the gems in each one, turned the demon-thing in the hall into stone, what else am I supposed to do?

Gdo: tell me about it. The first time I played it through, I didn't know you had to use the gems in the middle of the scroll diagram until the wooden door, because the first one worked without the blue gem in it.
