Viridian Room (AKA Crimson Room 2)
I'm too darn busy to post anything, but I had to make an exception here. Take your phone off the hook and put your life on hold, the sequel to Crimson Room is here in the form of the Viridian Room. I'm only just working my way through it now, but feel free to start up a help forum in the comments to this thread as before. My one top tip so far is to peak through the keyhole to see part 1. *joy*

Update: The site doesn't seem to be up the whole time, it must be getting a lot of hits, if you can't reach the game first time around try again later.

because you DON'T put it on the altar.
Kalanadian, if it says there "may be something unnecessary," there is. there was a clue about it, in the fact that you could have put either one of two things in.
John, there's something on the lamp, but you only see it from one angle. and the soul box starts with the green cross, but when you get the symbols on it in the correct order, it turns into a box.
read down from the top of this page for hints (and walkthroughs) about how to put the symbols in the correct order.

The soul box... isn't something that starts as a box. Try collecting the six chinese characters, checking inside the medicine bottle and then, you have to do something to the blanket covering the skeleton, once you manage to remove it. Those three things combined add to ultimately give you the soul box

The third game was meant as a Japanese cell phone game, so don't expect the same level of complexity that Viridian has. It can be found on Takagism's website.

SO confused!
OK I've read all of the above posts and NONE of them answer my question!
I've got everythign done. Beer on altar- chilly. Frame - empty. CD in CD case. Insence lit but picked back up. Soul box highlighted. Bell rung AND IT STILL SAYS "there may be unneccessary stuff"!!!!!!!!!
ARGH I thought I was doing really well got through the whole of the rest pretty quickly but now this!

akvee, they have to go in order. the order is on a piece of paper, but it doesn't show up until you do something to the piece of paper.
the key is in the skeleton's hand, but it's like the curtain in the Crimson Room.
the CD is in one of the objects you've found -- somewhere where a flat object like a CD could be.

the hint i got, that worked for me, was that it was a date, from something in the journal. differing versions of what that date was, and what format it should be in. apparently there are different versions of the game around, and the code may change depending on when you play it. but various people have also posted that NONE of the dates listed works.
scroll up and look for various solutions and try them. but if they don't work, i don't know what to tell you. sorry!
