A short Musical Friday this week after last week's Compilation as I'm a little short of time this week. So straight into it: EL is listening to one of my weird favourites The Polyphonic Spree's - Hold Me Now (a great version of the song with puppets). And if you like this you should also check out this video from the film Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, and also for all you p'n'c gamers there's the classic Quest For The Rest which combines Polyphonic Spree style audio goodness with Samorost style gaming goodness.Jo has sent in Krezip - Plug it in. The band is from Holland where music videos don't get done in black and white, they get made in black and white and pink. Genius. Finally clairevc sends in internet classic, but still stupidly catchy, Milk And Cereal, which I haven't heard in an age, but it's stuck in my head again now, thank you very much.
Paper Toilet. I wasn't going to include his one as I thought it was a bit dull, but then I discovered how it worked with the scroll-wheel on your mouse and I attained a new level of useless web toy glee as I unwound the whole thing in seconds, and then wound it all back up again. I can be pretty easy to please sometimes... [subbed by Melina].
Switch It Off And On: A well thought out lesson to us all to remind us to save power and the earth's resources, or, a mindless web toy that you will gleefully click for a few seconds. Which is it? You decide [subbed by Masquerade].
Last week on Lazylaces Musical Friday I asked for you to send in your musical links with a Friday vibe to share with us all, and some of you were kind enough to submit some for me to post. So I'm posting some of them here today for you all to share, apologies if I don't include yours, I either didn't have enough space, thought it was awful (and not in a comical way that would amuse us all), or I just plain lost it in amongst all my other millions of emails... anyway... First up is Fat Boy Slim's Weapon of Choice, featuring the superb dancing talents of Christopher Walken, from Michelle. An oldy (on the internet time moves fast), but a goody, that I haven't listened to since the days of StickBoySlim. Watch both for "compare and contrast" fun... EL's listening to a track I'm rather partial to myself, the rather excellently lo-fi, "Kings Of Convenience - I'd Rather Dance With You". Thanks for this one, I love the track, but I'd never watched the video before...nice moves: Musical Friday with the truly awful, but disturbingly addictive, Korean rap (er... say what?), "Ice Cream," by MC Mong. It's, how shall I put it, different, and the video is, well, see for yourself: Belle & Sebastian's - Funny Little Frog, a band I keep meaning to listen to more of, but which somehow I keep ignoring (except for now): Yma Sumac's Gopher Mambo, but this is the kind of madness they crave on Friday... hey! mambo!: last week Char) recommends Justice's - D.A.N.C.E, a French electro house band, much mentioned in the British press this last couple of weeks, and as a result I'd been meaning to check them out: nick s the hamster, a self developed flash movie, "Bob The Atom", which has just left me scratching my head and pondering one of life's great questions... WTF? Finally, what am I listening to this week? Well very specifically I'm listening to Bloc Party's Helicopter (Whitey version), which I have become addicted to, but the only link I can find on-line to that version is Last.fm's 30 second sample, so instead I'll include a YouTube link to the original track (hunt down the Whitey version if you can though - it's even better): submission for Musical Friday (and they're always welcome), if you use the words "Musical Friday" either in the title or blurb of the submission it'll make things easier for me to find, and post, it. You know how lazy I am... Thank you to everyone for providing our Lazylacers' Musical Friday Compilation soundtrack. Dance at your desk. Groove in the garden. Mambo(!) down the market. Samba on the school-yard. Letting down your hair at the end of a long hard week is the whole point of Musical Friday. I'm just a bit worried that MC Mong is the one I keep replaying... :o)
It's been an age since I did a Musical Friday, but I got sent 1990's - See You At The Lights specifically for today, and despite the fact that I've never heard of the band, let alone the song, I love it. A great track, nice video, and all in all it's fabulous Friday fare. Nice. And for future reference, if you've got some great music (link essential), especially something unusal we won't have heard, for a Friday, that has a nice Friday vibe, please drop me a note on the submissions page so we can all share next Friday [subbed by char].
iPhone but don't have the availability and/or money to get your hands on one? Then the iSmudginator is just what you've been looking for... [via m&c].
Hammer And Coop, mixing as it does Knightrider with a Mini Cooper, invades my head and plays my daydreams as flash videos for your enjoyment. Excellent fun [subbed by Toby].
Simpsons Avatar Generator is, to put it simply, excellent fun. You get to select from a large variety hairstyles, clothes, noses, colours, and a variety of other options to build an avatar that looks like yourself, or whoever, Simpsons-style. My effort is above - compare it with the original picture here. To get to the generator click on the linked page and then find and click "Create Your Own Simpsons Avatar" at the top of the screen [muchos gracias Tom].
Casual Gameplay Flash Game Design Competition over at Jay's. This is the third of the competitions they have run and if the entries are anywhere near as good as in the previous two competitions we'll all be seeing some great games soon. The theme of this one is "Replay", and top prize is $1000 + a Flash CS3 Professional license. Secondly Renegade is running two competitions linked to the launch of the CMSBox service, a web site that lets you create your own Flash Games Arcade for free. There's a games design competition for games developers with a top prize of a Nintendo Wii (or $250 of games) and if you have some artistic web design flare there's also a Theme Design Contest with another Nintendo Wii (or $250 of games) top prize. Good luck if you're thinking of entering any of these, the rest of us are looking forward to seeing/playing your entries. [Cheers Jay & Renegade].
I might have missed Lazylaces Musical Friday yesterday, but tonight, we are going to rock! So wrong, yet so good [via op-pop].
I haven't done a Musical Friday thing for an age (corporate firewall issues - but I posted this last night at home - ha!)... anyway, I'm particularly enjoying listening to The Fray recently. Let us all know what you're dropping (like it's hot) in the comments. PS: I'm loving the video browser thing that youtube have added (hover your mouse over the video once you have pressed play).
